Make credence recognised that on Wed, 15 Aug 2007 18:54:38 +0200, Tom

It's tidal, just not in real terms!

How about "The Strood" to Mersea Island (South of Colchester)? I believe
there is another to Horsey Island (South of Harwich)

and a window to input the location of the area you are interested in seeing. Can
you read French?
Geoportail is the French government sponsored equivalent of Google Earth.
Geoportail is hardly likely to start up with an image focused on North America

And there's an incredible tidal inrush across very long flats at Llanstefan
in SW Wales. A great sight.

You'll get it as the first hit if you enter that wording, but spell the
place correctly!

Am I the only person able to use Geoportail here?

If you are interested in walking in Scotland, there is a repeat of a good
program on TV tonight.

Why isn't Griff Rees Jones's Mountains series being repeated or is it?

Great British Journeys
BBC 2: Thursday, August 16 2007 (19:00 - 20:00)

Thu 16 Aug, 19:00 - 20:00 60 mins

Long before Lonely Planet began offering Hebridean tips on midges and local
history, Thomas Pennant island-hopped through the wildest archipelago in the UK.
Readers of his masterwork, A Tour in Scotland, learned about rocks that could
overpower a compass or prove the real age of the earth, and about a people
teetering on the edge of starvation. A pioneer, a scientist and an explorer,
Thomas Pennant put the Highlands and Islands on the map.

Can Nicholas Crane piece together the route which Pennant took and solve the
puzzle at the heart of it - why Pennant turned back at Ledbeg in Sutherland and
undertook an 18 mile trek through rain, bogs and mountains to the obscure island
of Inchmaree? Nick makes the same trek over the still difficult terrain to
answer the question. [AD,S]
