Oh no! Don't tell Tom Cruise that.

But was it bright and sunny at your *destination*?

And Nastassja Kinski. I think maybe there is a whole roster of great
actresses reacting against daddy. Name some more.

Let's see if we can make up a rule. Actors who didn't hate their fathers
turned out lousy. Nancy Sinatra. Michael Douglas.

It was bright and sunny the entire flight until the sun started going
down. Not a cloud anywhere.

The way the scheduling of airline flights has developed in the generation
since deregulation means that it could be stormy in some city that's not
anywhere near your particular flight path, and because of planes not being
able to take off, a domino effect ensues that causes all of the gates at
your destination to be full.

Or it could be that the bad weather cleared up or passed out of the flight
path during the time of your flight delay. Last year, I was the victim of
such a scenario. After an 11-hour flight from Tel Aviv, my continuing
flight sat on the tarmac at Newark for three hours before it was cancelled
due to "bad weather at the destination." Since there were no seats
available to that destination for two days, the airline company offered to
send us on an eight-hour bus ride. . . but no bus company was willing to
send a bus because of the purported "bad weather." Several of us rented
a car (which might have been an interesting premise for a movie had one
of us turned out to have been a psychopath), drove overnight to the
destination, and except for about 10 minutes of rain in mid-New Jersey,
experienced no bad weather whatsoever.

The one time in my life that I've flown first class (from Tel Aviv to Newark),
the ticket cost me less than a coach ticket would have. That was admittedly
thanks to "frequent flyer" miles that made it impossible for me to get a free
coach ticket, but incredibly easy to purchase an upgrade.

In the present instance, the "she freaked out" theory sounds more reasonable
than the "we go back to the gate for first class passengers" theory.
About a decade ago, my aunt and uncle were on a flight that had a stopover
in London. One passenger freaked out and refused to get back on the plane,
at which point they removed *all* of the luggage and made everyone identify
their own -- which is apparently very similar to what happened in the
present instance.

As I pointed out in my previous post, this was true pre 9/11 as well.

It's possible that the bad weather was far above sea level.
