Nice to Rapallo -- train or car?

My wife and I are trying to get from Amsterdam to Rapallo. To do this
we're flying Easyjet to Nice. I'm having trouble piecing together the Nice
to Rapallo portion. It seems that most of the trains leaving Nice to
Rapallo,Genoa,San Remo, etc. are a bit late in the day. We are arriving in
Nice around 10 am and would like to get to Rapallo as soon as possible to
meet up with our friends. Would we be better off just renting a car? Or
are there other websites you might recommend I use to help plan this
portion of our trip. I'm currently visiting the rail.europe site for
planning the train routes.
All recommendations are grately appreciated!

There are plenty of trainconnections between Nice and Rapallo, only a few
through but many with a change of train at Ventimiglia and Genova
The best site is the German timetable (English version) on
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
As you can see there's a train almost every hour with a travel time of
4½-5h.
Tickets are best bought locally.
Slow trains but a nice and scenic trip.

not easy as Rapallo is a small train station and between san remo and
Genoa there is only one track on the italian side, meaning not many trains
I would strongly suggest renting a car which you can also use to tour
the countryside around rapallo
if you go by train, you will have to take a bus from the aiport to the
train station in Nice, probably change trains in Ventimiglia (border
town) and then take a taxi when you get to Rapallo...
have a nice trip

I think their is a station closer to the airport. The thing to consider is
that Rapallo is a 2-3 hour drive whereas the train will take some 4-6 hours
of actual rail time. Weigh cost vs. convenience; such as will you need a car
when you get to Rapallo?
