The generic names can vary too. The two biggies are paracetamol
(acetaminophen in the US) and salbutamol (albuterol in the US).
To save space, I usually carry pills in clear film containers with
the packet label cut off and rolled up inside.
I once asked on rec.travel about a tougher one: I was going to the
Balkans at the height of the war in Bosnia and wanted to take some
useful medical supplies. What would have been most useful locally
was morphine. I never did find out how you got clearance to take
large quantities of it across Europe - I presume there is some sort
of internationally recognized manifest.

Yes, but there's no reason you can't bring your daily pill container to
use once you get to Ireland.
