There is not many cheap hotels left in London run by "english people".

I hope you used capital letters in the right places on your application
for the interview! ;-)
You would probably be best to stay at a chain hotel, such as Ibis, Holiday
Inn Express or Comfort Inn. Try those hotels' websites and search for a
hotel in London WC1. There are several to choose from.

I often stay at the Selfridge, which is toward the western end of Oxford
Street. You'll pay around 80UKP per night (which is cheap for London) if
you book through lastminute.com. If you want to be closer to the east end
of Oxford Street (which is a very long street), the Radisson Edwardian
Grafton on Tottenham Court Road is very nice, though probably a bit
pricier. At the budget end, the Regent Palace on Piccadilly Circus - about
five minutes' walk from Oxford Circus - is basic but acceptable with rooms
from about 50UKP.
Don't stay at Piccadilly Backpackers next door to the Regent Palace - it's
grim.
You shouldn't have to pay rack rate unless you're going at a very busy
time of year - check out lastminute.com and also laterooms.com.
I'm not sure what you mean by "run by English people" - like most hotels
in London, all of these I mention have a high proportion of non-English
staff. However, they're just as professional as any English hotelier
(waits for someone to mention Fawlty!).

>>>was wondering if anyone could recommend a hotel near new oxford street.
The 4* Thistle Marble Arch, which is right at Oxford Street, has been going
for bids around 54$ (U.S.) on Priceline in the last couple of months. The
total cost, including all taxes and fees, is about $70 (U.S.). I got two
nights (separate stays) in March for that price. It is a huge (600 room?)
hotel that has been a steal on Priceline in recent months.
