No, it's usually considered to be geographically in Asia not Europe.
Have a look at the map and you'll see why.
However the exact definitions of Europe and the borders are by tradition
only.
Very much in opposite to nations borders being typically very exact defined
in treaties, careful marked, supervised and if necessary protected with
military forces.

Yes of course ! I didn't looked on a map. That's what I made a
confusion between Syria and Lebanon... (I remembered it only few
minutes late...) and forgot the split of USSR...!!!! and that Corea
was separated with Russia by a small chinese corridor !!!! But
nevertheless the eastern borders of russia and turquey are
"incongruous" for Europe.

Not by any civilized definition. It doesn't even have any portion that
is european like Turkey does.

As Iraq hasn't yet applied to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, they
must still be in Asia ;-)

Iraq is not in the geographic area known as Europe:
http://www.pickatrail.com/jupiter/lo...pe/europe.html

AND

Iraq is not in the European Union:
http://www.pickatrail.com/sun/e/euro...ean_union.html

FURTHERMORE

The European Union includes countries in the geographic area known as
Europe. You said, "the union itself is extended outside Europe", and I
disagree. However it is true that some European countries have not
joined the European Union. If you read the content at the above links
then you will see that Cyprus is a part of the geography known as
Europe. Also, Spain and the Canary Islands, etc. are a part of the
geography known as Europe. Indeed, this is why they use the Euro as
their currency:

Do you have any idea where the Canary Islands actually are?

If you've ever watched the Eurovision song contest, with UK commentary,..
you would of course realise that my replies were not meant to be taken in
the least bit seriously :-)

No, you've confused a lot. Reading the above link you'll see that Cyprus
is a member of the European Union. That's not exactly the same as being in
Europe.
Cyprus is usually considered as being in Asia.

Also, Spain and the Canary Islands, etc. are a part of the

Ceuta,Melilla,Chanary Islands are in Africa. That's obvious just looking at
a map.
They're are also part of Spain. They're also using Euro because A: they're
part of Spain B: Spain is a member of the EMU.
You'll also find French overseas departments in North,South
America,Carribean and Africa using Euro but not being in Europe.

No, Cyprus is in the geographic area known as Europe. Yes, the Canary
Islands are near Africa, but they are also near Spain, and in the
Atlantic Ocean. Of course, the British often say they are not a part
of Europe. We can argue all day about whether or not a particular
island in the Atlantic Ocean is a part of the geographic area known as
Europe.

The dollar is used in many places outside of the North American
continent, and the Euro is used in many places outside of the European
continent. You say, "You'll also find French overseas departments in
North,South America,Carribean and Africa using Euro..." and that may
be true for example in Guadeloupe, French Guyana, Martinique and
Réunion.

Near spain in what sense? They're even nearer Western Sahara than
Morroco aren't they?

But in the case of the Canary Islands, it would be like arguing all day over
whether the earth was flat.

The Canary Islands are 70 miles directly west of the southern tip of Morocco
(where Western Sahara begins). They are 700 miles south of Spain. The entire
country of Tunisia is closer to Europe than the Canary Islands. Is that in
Europe too?
