Hello, I have a connecting flight in a different airport in London so I would like to
know what the best way is to get from one airport to the other. Please note that by
best I mean CHEAPEST (first of all) and quickest (secondly). I arrive at Heathrow at
8.30pm so I guess that between immigration and baggage I will be outside the airport
at 9.30. I know the subway closes early. Will I make it? My next plane in Stansten is
in the early morning. Thank you

It closes early, but not THAT early. At most stations the last train is some time
between 11pm and 12:30.

And even if you DID manage to miss the last Underground there are still coaches
to Stansted.

Do you want to go from airport to airport, or airport to London to airport? The
subway runs to London, but not on to Stansted.
You can look in:
http://www.gobycoach.com/
for direct coach, which is about £18.,

There is a Flightlink/Jetlink bus service between Heathrow and Stansted, every 2
hours from 6 am to midnight. 1-way fare £12. Takes about 2 hours. See:
http://www.travelbritain.org/newhome...r.htm?region=1
www.gobycoach.com would be the website, but it doesn't seem to be working (or maybe
just hates Opera) right now.

How do they get away with that? Captive market? You can get a return from London to
the NW of England for just over £20.

What are coaches? I need cheap alternatives, I cannot afford a taxi

Coaches are buses. The cheapest way is probably to take the tube + train, but at
night the coach would be faster as it's more direct.

Coaches (long-distance buses) tend to be dearer to airports in the UK than on other
journeys of similar distance. I think the coach operators get socked by a
significant admission charge from the airport operator - probably particularly at
Heathrow. So do taxis.

A "coach" in British English is a long-distance bus. There is a direct service
between H'row and STANSTED - make sure you spell it correctly when making online
enquiries! - with a full single fare of 18 pounds. If you are coming back on the same
route a return will probably not cost much more. Coaches run regularly throughout the
day, with the first at
04.10 and the last at 23.40. Journey time on the late night services is 1 hour
25 minutes.
This is certainly the most convenient way of transferring, will probably be the
cheapest, and the most reliable if you have an early flight the next morning.
Heathrow doesn't have an all-night train or tube service, and any journey via central
London will involve at least two transfers (e.g. at Paddington and Liverpool Street
if using Heathrow Express).

One thing about prices ... you can be sure they go up.

In exchange for the charge, the coach operators may get exclusive access, so there's
little direct competition.
