help needed estimating travel budget!
Any help or feedback would be appreciated: I am trying to form a rough
budget for a trip for two through Europe for 14 days. Here are my estimates
(amounts are for two people)-- which seem high, low, what am i leaving out?
Airfare is RT for two Minneapolis USA (MSP) to Paris France (CDG). We
basically want to see some major cities in Europe-- Paris, Madrid, Rome,
London, etc. Thank you in advance!
~Randy
$2000 Airfare
$1200 EurRail
$1400 Hotel
$1000 Meals
$ 100 Subway
$ 300 Museums
$ 200 Shows
$ 150 Coffee
$ 250 Bus/taxi
$ 100 Cybercafes
$ 300 Miscellaneous
----- -----------
$6000 Total

everything MS-Windows should be."

With only two weeks you can spend that time in one city and maybe some
daytrips to smaller towns.
I would recommend two cities if this your first visit to Europe.
London and Paris. Fly into London from the US, stay a week. Then fly
into Paris. There are plenty of cheap airlines like Ryanair to get you
to Paris. Then spend a week there and then fly home.
I am bias on this, if you are going to visited something spend the
time to really visit it and see as much as possible. Also it will be a
less costly trip since you will not have to spend money and valuable
time to get to your next destination.

Re: help needed estimating travel budget!
That's a lot of $$$ for just two weeks. Good god! Then again, some poeple
travel like that. A prime reason they go so few places so infrequently.
$100/night for a hotel is more than I would spend. And your average of $71/day
for food is high too.
I went to Paris in 2000. It cost us $763 for 6 nights for TWO people exclusive
of airfare.
We were 5 min from Notre Dame, did the whole museum thing and subways, etc,
etc. (it was 8 francs = 1USD).
Suggest you look at Rick Steve's website. Buy a book.

Re: help needed estimating travel budget!
Hi,
London is much more expensive than Paris and Madrid is FAR! Even the
train journey takes quite a while.
You have not told us what level of accommodation you want - standard
American hotel / motel or European business or European vacationer or
European budget...
Food in Paris costs about 20-30 euros pp for a nice 3 or 4 course meal
(without wine) at a carefully chosen restaurant from guide books such as
Lonely Planet, Routard, etc. Cheaper available (we had a fabulous lunch
for 12 euros including wine!) If you spent 30 euros each for dinner for
12 nights, the total would be about $800USD.

Re: help needed estimating travel budget!
Hi,
I've always figured 100$/day and it averages out. sure there are
expensive days in Paris with 15 euro "cuba libres" (rum and coke) and
cabs etc but there are cheapo days in amsterdam with an 8 euro bike for
transportation, 2 euro beers, and good cheap chinese food for dinner...
