and $884 to another airport (BER)
So, At $884, it is going to be difficult to save $750 by going to AMS and driving to
Berlin. And this is for the Sept 19-30 dates you stated.

Since everyone seems so hell bent on arguing with me on this one issue, try using any
of the online sites (Orbitz, Travelocity ..etc) for middle/end of September travel
dates and let me know what you get.
I get a quote of $967 ORF - TXL on 9/21 - 9/30 from Orbitz as of right this minute
and the plane stops in AMS for a transfer. For the weeks on either side of that date
the cost is the same.
So since the stupid plane stops in Amsterdam any way, why shouldn't I get off and do
some sight seeing on the weekend on my own time? The difference in the price of the
ticket times 2 (another person is traveling) will cover the cost of the rental car.
Company isn't out a dime, I get to see Amsterdam.
I am truly sorry I ever asked the question. I hope I run into people who are a tad
bit more friendly on my trip.
To the folks who answered my questions with tips on what to do & see, I thank you
very much.

Not a bit stuffy. I was a lad once myself. People stoned on reefer are usually quite
mellow in my experience. It's the ones on alcohol you have to watch out for.

For those who like to make snide remarks, yes I was in the military, and yes I saw
more the inside of titty bars. However, they were on the evening itinerary.

But... that isn't what you said. You claimed you were going to AMS and then driving
to Berlin to save your company $750 per person times 2...

All you had to do was say you wanted to go to Amsterdam instead of telling this story
about how you had to fly there and drive in order to save $$4 due to the high ticket
prices to Germany for Octoberfest. What you said didn't make sense and factually the
airfare to Germany isn't as high as you claimed.

In my original post that is exactly what I said. On the day that I said it, it was
based on the information I had on that day. I wish to god I never posted the stupid
ass post to begin with. People are more interested in playing Joe travel agent as
opposed to answer the question I asked.

My advice is never tell anyone why you want to do something. It isn't anyone's
buiness anyway, and that's all they argue about. You want to do it, ask how, details,
basta. If it is truly dangerous or something, someone will slip that in anyway.

I disagree. It sounded like he thought he "had" to go to Amsterdam and drive to
Berline because the fare to Berlin was %$750 more. If that really was his reason for
going to Amsterdam, then indicating he could get to Berlin for a much lower price is
helpful information. As it stood, he was spreading false information indciating
getting to Berlin was a lot more expesnsive that it is. The information may not have
mattered to him, but it helps other people that may be going to Berlin in September.
If I just wanted to assist him, I would email him. If I respond in the group, it is
because the information should be shared.

Your question were answered. Additionally other people read the newsgroup and your
statements about the airfare were false. It was important to correct that information
so that people who want to go to Berlin know that the airfare is NOT $750 MORE than
it is to AMS. In fact the actual airfare isn't much more than %750 total. I found
$894 from a normal online agency. If needed, it wouldn't be that difficult to find it
from a consolidator or some other method for under $800.

Well excuse the hell out of us. What you had suggested did not make a heck of a lot
of sense, and the price difference you claimed seemed way out of line. Flying
overseas and then doing some quick sightseeing and then a long drive for business
didn't seem like the best way to do it. But what the heck, if you are hell bent on
doing that, go ahead.

Perhaps it was a mistake. If so, then admit it and move on. But trying to defend the
