There are plenty who do that and don't have the decency to die
immediately afterwards.

Back then they were preservers of culture. Nowadays a senseless faction

No disagreement! Islamic scholarship declined as that of the
West arose. Look at Turkey, probably the greatest empire for
centuries that would not have survived in the 20th century
without the secular reforms of Kemal Ataturk.

I'd imagine you were talking about George Bush, except that no-one
would refer to his daddy as a "preserver of culture".
