Saw an interview of some people on the street and one guy was saying he
hoped the new law would help him cut down.
Interesting perspective. An American would likely say govt. shouldn't
intrude but the Frenchman seemed to be implying that he needed help from
a patrician law.
The stats are astounding, an estimated 66k deaths in France from smoking
and 5k from second-hand smoke.

The 66k stats seem to be French, I would like to know how they were
established, but we get
no explanations.
The stats on second-hand smoking are an extrapolation of a survey made
in USA.
Last year we were given figures like 2.5, now it is 6. Serious anti-
tabacco scientist
thinks the figure is around 1K ...
The truth in stats is irrelevant. What matters is how many times they
are repeated.
Dr Goebbels has clearly established how figures should be used.
Is second-handsmoking more polluting than heavy traffic or industrial
pollution?
Have they been able to identfy people suffering from other people's
smoking in
areas were no other source of polluton existed ? How do they do
that ?
As for 70% support, this is probably true. Same as the introdction of
Euros a few
years ago. Everybody was pleased, it was a full success. Germans and
French are
less enthousiastic now...
The smoke of burning cars is not a concern. It is quite healthy, in
fact.
And we can now fully enjoy it in a tabacco-free atmosphere.

who said you get cancer from car exhausts? Smoking is a stinking
filthy thing that shouldn't be allowed to spoil normal non addicts
enjoyment of public places. That's the way its going to go, like it or
not.

Cars also have benefits, whist cigarettes have none.
