What is our dollar worth versus the Euro? Going to Ireland soon and need to
figure if my expenses are going to more than I planned, i.e. if the Euro is
better than the dollar.

IMO, the euro and the dollar are "equal" in value as far as a tourist is
concerned. On a first trip to a country, no tourist understands a different
price structure or where to get the very best price, so worrying about 10 or
15% is wasted energy.

the euro is about 6 cents over the dollar, the rates fluctuate daily,
but usually not too radically

Recently the dollar has been worth about 92 euro cents. To get a rough
idea of the cost of things in euro zone countries, multiply the euro
cost by 1.1 to get the dollar cost. For current rates and information

Recently the dollar has been worth about 92 euro cents. To get a rough
idea of the cost of things in euro zone countries, multiply the euro
cost by 1.1 to get the dollar cost. For current rates and information

At "home" I hope these people don't spend their entire vacation worrying
about the last 10% of their budget.
Years ago, when I got 3.87 FF to the dollar, it made a difference. But a
few years later I was getting near 10 FF to the dollar. At least the euro
has stayed within +/- 10 or 15% of the dollar for its whole life. That
ought to be close enough for someone who is generally stuck paying tourist
prices in any case.
But the rough equality of euro/dollar doesn't change the fact that some
countries are more/less expensive than others, not matter what currency you
use to describe the price.

I agree with the core idea. Unless one habitually visits a place, it
is difficult to internalise the idea of the value of a currency. An
American in the euro zone might think of the euro as a "big dollar"; I
find that such strategies help me.

I agree with the core idea. Unless one habitually visits a place, it
is difficult to internalise the idea of the value of a currency. An
American in the euro zone might think of the euro as a "big dollar"; I

Currently the euro is about 10% ahead of the (U.S.) dollar.

I don't find it difficult to add 10% to a price.

I wouldn't be surprised if they will e-mail or message you the rate
periodically; they've got all sorts of services and tools, most of which I
haven't looked at. (I use them for historic rates for income taxes.)
