Default English Channel fares

We are planning a couple of channel crossings shortly, with car. I realize expense
depends ( what with the price of petrol) on the destination, but aside from that,
which is the cheapest? Is the Hovercraft still in existence? rjf

There are hovercrafts, but they only go from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight.

Hoverspeed use Seacat and Superseacat [1]

[1] these craft manage to give the full hovercraft experience in rough seas as a
friend with a weak stomach found out last year
