Re: Deal for European holiday from India
Depends where you want to go and how old your children are.
For a family a rental car is a better choice than rail passes. *) Especially with
younger children it may not be the best idea to sleep every night at a different
place. Or to travel x hours from destination A to B every day. You can get a rental
appartment (Ferienwohnung) for a family of 4 e.g. in the Odenwald region (south east
of Frankfurt) for EUR 30,- to 40,- per night. You are than free to decide every day
if you want to make some cultural sightseeing (like
Heidelberg,Speyer,Würzburg,Rothenburg,...), some for children more interesting
sightseeing (car museum, boat trip, walking to some castle/castle ruins, salt mine,
stalactite cave) or just something relaxing (adventure play ground, open door fun
pool,...). And in a rental appartment you can always decide if you want to eat out or
to cook yourself. Frankfurt is generally a good (price, connections) place to fly in
and to rent a car.
Have a look at this travel report of a family from Singapore www.vgpma.com/travel
*) In bigger cities a car is mostly no big help. You can buy e.g. in Munich a Partner
Day Ticket (1 day EUR 7,50; 3 days EUR 17,50) on which you can travel with your whole
family on all means of public transport. For this amount you can't even park your car
(not speaking of the rental fees). And you are much more flexible than whit a car
(searching for parking space, first walking back to the car before proceeding to the
next stop).
If your children are older you can also consider to stay in youth hostels. Most of
them have family rooms. With a family even the normal age limit of 26 in Bavaria does
not apply. There are about 600 youth hostels in Germany alone (in some countries the
density is lesser). And approx. 50 of them are in readapted castles.
e.g.http://www.burg-wildenstein.com/burg1.html (my opinion: best castle, best
location) http://www.burg-breuberg.de (my opinion: best castle hostel)

Depends on which part of Europe you are planning to go.
If interested in Greece, you can find a lot of information at: http://www.holidays4all.com.
Have a nice holiday, wherever you choose to go.
