Default Athens Airport - 1 or 2

In November of 2000, we arrived in Athens via AirFrance and needed to get to an
Olympic flight to Rhodes. We arrived in the East Terminal and needed to get to the
West Terminal. It turned out the West Terminal was a bus ride or taxi ride across
town. I've read in this group about the new Athens airport. So when we go from Athens
to Crete this year, will everything be at one airport? Or did they just build a new
East (or West) Terminal?

How far is the new airport from Athens? What is the best way to get to our hotel?
(taxi or train) What is the average taxi fare from the airport? We are staying at the
St. George Lycabettus (Lycabettus Hill)

Thank You

Actually the East and West terminals were on opposite sides of the old airport at
Glyfada, so you didn't have to cross town to get from one to the other - it just
seemed like it!

All flights now use the new airport so you will arrive and depart from the
same building.

About 1 hr. bus ride, I estimate approx. 40 km.

I say bus. Last year the ticket was 1000 drs. That's in the vicinity of 3 EUR.

The busses from / to the new Athens airport are :
- Bus E95 -Airport to Syntagma Square- runs 24hours, 7 days of the week.
- Bus E96 -Airport to Piraeus port- runs 24 hours, 7 days of the week.
- Bus E94 -Airport to Ethniki Amyna metro (underground) station-
The faster combination is bus+metro. The metro takes you to Syntagma square in 9 minutes from this station. Runs from 05:00 - midnight, 7 days of the week.

The ticket cost is approx. 3,00 Euros, and the same ticket is valid for the airport bus and the metro too. (It is also valid for all public busses, train, trolley busses and metro for 24 hours after the first validation).
The taxi from the airport is very expensive (approx. 20,00-25,00 Euros). To the center.

I hope all the above are useful to all those who plan to visit Athens in the near future.
