For moderate amounts of money at the end I use the tip process for the
cruise staff. On one cruise just before the introduction of the euro
the tips were in eight currencies. I figured that folks in the travel
industry could handle it.

ATM dispensing EUR in addition to CHF seem to be standard at
some tourist places here in Switzerland (definitely at Zurich
airport and places near the [German] border), but can be
found all over the country.

They can/could.
On Rhine cruises in the 1990's with UK and US passengers, my accounts
were in NLG, DM, FF, Swiss Francs, sterling cash/personal
cheques/credit cards/travellers cheques, US $ cash/credit
cards/travellers cheques..............and the transfer rep who took
some passengers to Brussels for an extended stay wanted to be paid in
Belgian Francs.

I've seen one in the Oslo airport producing a number of currencies,
possibly 8 or so.
Definitely SEK,Euro and GBP but as I can remember also Thai Baht.

The inclusion of Baht is impressive, though I suppose they have lots of
people flying there from Norway on vacation. I remember once being at
Phuket airport, and it seemed half the charter flights were from various
Nordic countries.

Ah, the thin end of the wedge. Instead of putting it up to the electorate,
it will just become a fait accompli.

I have heard rumours that there are parts of the UK that aren't London,
but of course I know better than to believe them.

Pleased to report that the shopping trolleys at Sainsbury's
supermarket, Clifton Down Shopping Centre, Bristol, will take £1 or €1
coins.

The thing about Euros though is that they are a widely used currency
among visitors to all parts of the UK. Irish, French, Dutch, Germans-
they visit here in large numbers. It simply makes sense from a pragmatic
point of view that they will increasingly be accepted in a lot of
places- albeit I imagine with the usual profiteering!

Not in the French part of Switzerland. I saw Geneva and Lausanne
littered with ATMs where you can withdraw Euros as well as swiss franc.
I'd venture some big banks will also have USD or Sterling, too.
