its a bit cheaper and a bit tattier in my limited experience and that
of friends comparing the paradors with the posadas.

Manifestly, but I see it frequently.

What on earth does that mean?

Great. Let's have some more generalisations.

I found the quality of the fish in particular excellent in Portugal-
quality was similar to what I'd expect in a similar price range to
Spain, just a little cheaper- and of course it was _different_.

I do, and it's rarer, but I thought the issue here was good quality food
at the lower end of the scale?

Most people don't eat at places like el Bulli. Spaniards often eat quite
simply when they go out, at least in my limited experience...

of course not, it was an example of the fact theres more top end
restros in Spain than Portugal to justify my earlier comment.

Yes you do, just a bit bigger, sometimes with a spicy mayo-type sauce or
something else- nothing, in some cases.

I was surprised at the high quality of Portugese restaurants even in a
tourist resort like Lagos. We dined at a somewhat fancier one there, in
part because it had a non-smoking floor (which seems extremely rare in
Portugal- though that will change soon) and still weren't paying much.
Maybe 30 euro per person.

Where I used to work I found the Portuguese far more attractive than the
Spaniards. Perhaps something to do with the Spaniards all being male and the
Portuguese all females.

This is a tough one. I find many Spaniards attractive. At a slight
pinch, it seemed to me there were more attractive men in Portugal, but I
think that's attributed more to the fact that I haven't been to Spain
since January, and with every day I get older, the average looks of
everyone else gets better. One of the nice things about ageing!
