I'll be staying for 4 days/3 nights in Barcelona. So far, my plans are
Day 1: City tour and Day 2: Trip to Montserrat. Any suggestions on Day
3 and 4? Many thanks.

Agreed. There is plenty to see and do in Barcelona.

As the others say you'll have no difficulty filling the time
in the city, but if you really must go somewhere it should
be the Dali Museum in Figueres - wonderful place (and
regular readers will confirm that I usually hate art musuems)

How about a day in Sitges?

I agree with the others that Barcelona has plenty to see by itself. I
appreciate that Sitges is easy to get too, but I don't think it's that
special unless you specifically want a beach trip. We spent 4 nights in
Barcelona then 4 in Sitges- because we wanted the beach trip! We took
the Montserrat trip from Barcelona and a day trip to Tarragona from
Sitges. The pacing was good for us. To visitors with more time, I
definitely recommend Tarragona as an underlooked destination. There are
tourists there but not many- the industry in the city (docks) are
obvious, so it's not completely picture postard perfect, but it's got a
charming older section of town with nice restaurants, and some very good
roman artefacts, including a sublime aquaduct a 30 minute bus ride out
of town.

I'm going for 4 days/5 nights.

Was considering a guided tour of Montserrat and a cava winery which
would take 9 hours. But it certainly seems like there are enough things
for the whole time.

Against my better judgement I was persuaded to go on an organised tour to
Montserrat and to the Cava place.
Don't do it !!!! The tour guide on our trip was fluent in 286 languages and
translated everything accordingly, the woman just didn't stop talking for
the whole day.

Its fairly simple to visit by public transport- and cheaper.

I didn't go to the Cava place, but I agree completely about Montserrat-
that it's very accessible by PT. Indeed, if you drove there, you miss
the cable car ride! I would definitely recommend it, even on a short
visit to Barcelona- if it's not terrible weather! It's a fantastic break
from the city, and actually needn't take the whole day. We got there in
the morning, went for quite a vigorous walk around the hills for a
couple of hours, and were back in Barcelona by around 3pm.

Is that so? I drove there as we had a car.

It looked a pig to get to by PT. OK there's a railway station at the
bottom. Is there really a public bus to the top?

Ah, so that's the answer to my question.

Thanks

Yup- just saw your question! I've not been driven up to the Monastery,
but I can't imagine it would have been better than the cable car.

Maybe an example where your miss out having the car! :)

There are also funiculaire (2?) up to higher levels, but you probably
saw them when you were there?

I don't recall that I did.

Perhaps this is the cost of still using my out of date guide book.
It's the same one that I used when I went to Andalucia in, um
'85!

Perhaps I better buy a new one if I do go to Spain again next month
