The definition of Europe has been larger than the current EU at least a millenium and
I see no reason to narrow it now.

I have no idea what Robinson meant.

A few days ago there was a news item about the breaking up of a counterfeiting ring
in Colombia. it was making US dollar coins for disbursement in Ecuador.

Last time I was in Peru (Last year) the local currency was Sol, but the locals prefer
US dollars.

Strictly speaking, Panama's currency is the balboa, officially set at parity to
the dollar.

I've been in RTA as long as RTC, but this is crossposted to r.t.e, so that's how I
wandered in there.

That's exactly what happens almost everywhere. Use a foreign card, get language
choices. Use a domestic card, you see the local language.

Yeah, apparently I mean "again" - I didn't pay much attention to the value of the
Euro until it became actual currency. (I had enough trouble keeping track of the
currency in use in the countries I visited.)

Amazing... for the first time in almost 200 years the U.S. homeland is attacked and
one of the targets was her financial markets... add in some tabloid headlines of
anthrax and top it off with fraud at the highest of corporate levels and your popping
the cork at breaking the single digits over 11 months... good grief! Its like taking
credit for your increased business when your competitors store burns down.

While the volatility in the worlds markets is unsettling... none comes close to the
power and stability of the U.S. markets. On Monday morning, just one of the U.S.
market indexes lost the equivalent of the combined annual GDP of BOTH Sweden and the
Netherlands but by the afternoon a market was found and most of the TRILLION U.S.
dollars was made back.

The U.S. dollars is the worlds consumer instrument, on any given day there is more
than $250 Billion U.S. dollars in circulation OUTSIDE the U.S. and when you look
under the mattresses worldwide you will not find Euro's.

Have you ever seen a balboa note?

The integration of the two currencies is more than simple parity (which was the
Argentine situation until last year). Panama is fully dollarized, but uses its
own coinage.

When I stated that none of the cash dispensers I had seen here, had 'English
buttons', I was referring to 'hardware buttons', as I had assumed that this was what
you meant. Certainly, several of them have displayed, 'Choose language ... etc ..' on
the screen, but I consider this software-driven. I have never seen a cash dispenser
which has a button 'English' on the keypad.

However this is a de facto situation. If the USD loses credibility and the Euro
gains, this could easily change, and the consequences might be fairly dramatic for
the US economy. And there is little the US government could do about it. Sending
troops to antarctica wouldn't help.
