Hi, all.
I'll be travelling from Berlin to Sofia, Bulgaria on 2nd-class
train in late April. I've checked Die Bahn & other sites to
get the timetables, but I can't seem to get a price. Any
rough estimate how much I can expect to pay?
Thanks!

According to www.raileurope.com, from Berlin to Budapest would cost $213
and take 13+ hours. From Budapest to Sofia would cost $147 and take 16
hours.

The Czech Railways' international tariff calculator (
http://www.jizdenka.cz/(5q3z4kycqzbm0j2oq5bmaa45)/IT.aspx ) suggests
that a one-way second class fare from Berlin to Sofia via Passau,
Vienna, Budapest, Subotica, Belgrade and Dimitrovgrad will cost about
6516 CZK, or around 227.80 euro.

The journey by train (as described above) takes about 30hours!!!!
You could fly from Berlin to Sofia in just over 2 hours for less than 100
euros. See http://www.hemusair.bg/index.php

I made Sofia Beograd Budapest and can confirm that it is a long way with
long stops at the borders-
( from Sofia to Beograd it is a single track diesel train.. )
there are a lot of low cost airlines. and I guess that if you spend a
little time in looking.. you might find a much better solution
pls try with
www.megaflieger.de or

If bought from Raileurope !
According to the Czech timetable local bought tickets are Berlin-Prague Euro
49 and Prague-Sofia over Hungary-Romania is Euro 119.
As others have suggested a direct trip is better by low-price air but if you
want to see a lot you're free to make any stops enroute with an
international CIV marked rail-ticket. Prague-Budapest-Bucharest is on the
route.

You forget that there are plenty of people who do not want to travel by air.
OK - the train takes a long time, but to me that would be preferable to
being stuck inside a plane for even a few seconds.
