If he only got 5 hours there is not much time, it takes already about an
hour to get from DUS Airport to Cologne city (if the trains are on time).
If the weather is nice (should be in June) I would suggest he goes down to
the Rhine and books a round-trip with one of the ships. They have trips
that go for about an hour, its nice and breezy.
Then he can have a beer or two in one of the pubs in the Oldtown.
Besides, he can go check out Koenigsallee for the fashion-shopping (bring a
full wallet, though).
Regards,
Frank (from the city south of Dusseldorf ;-))

That will take quite a bite out of the time available, and will cost more,
so not a good option.

That's a useful reply, thank you.
Any recommendations for lunch? The preference is for some German-style food.

In the Altstadt, head to Im FÃŒchsen, a brewpub with a solid menu of
German standards, or Zum SchlÃŒssel, or Im Schiffchen.
Outside of the Altstadt, Frankenheim's own pub, on the original brewery
premises, is a good bet, or in Oststrasse (and not terribly far from the
train station), there's Schumacher. All of these feature good Altbier
and hearty German food.
