Purely as a point of information, the American "shorthand"
for today's date (October 31, 2004) is "10/31/04", but if
you're expressing it in European/UK format, is it not
"31.10.04"? (I was under the impression Europe used decimal
points instead of slashes to separate the numbers?)

Quite apart from that, we'd certainly have found our
interstate commerce quickly grinding to a disastrous halt!
The American transportation industry functions thanks to
foreign oil - cut our "pipeline" to that, and nothing moves
on our highways. In a country where individual regions of
a large continent no longer produce their own food, but
depend upon daily deliveries via interstate commerce, one
might expect hoarding, food riots, and ultimately famine, if
those supply lines were suddenly cut.

Dear cretin (aka ARKADYA),
The poster to whom you're replying is, SFAIK, a citizen of
the UK, so cannot (more's the pity) vote in the U.S.
election. Of course, if you had the brains of a flea, you'd
already have noticed that - but since you plan to vote for
the villageless idiot, you obviously do not.

And where did YOUR ancestors come from, cretin? I'll lay
odds they were NOT Native Americans, and "Americans" like
you are generally from the irredeemable dregs of their
native lands (who failed to take advantage of the
opportunities emigration to the U.S. offered them).

Too bad everyone doesn't just switch to a 2004/10/31 format, which
would (perhaps) eliminate confusion and also has the virtue that it
sorts properly on a computer.

For some reason I suspect that the USA will be the last place to run
out of oil. It's just too damn important, and the US has the sources
under control - for now. No matter how much shit the US dumps on
Venezuela, it will still provide them with oil. I suspect the same
would happen with Saudi Arabia, and the rest of the oil rich
countries.
It's merely a fanciful notion that these countries would ever try to
bite back as the US. I just can't see it ever happening.
