that a Trabant is worth up to GBP7000

Times change. I recall that if an East German fellow was assigned to an
"official" waiting list, it took 17 years in average to become a happy owner
of a Socialist wonder (with 594cc engine, I saw one as polished at Leipzig
Messe in 1989). Naturally there were "open markets" too but prices were
essentially higher than for a fresh car from factory line. Some German
scientists seriously studied a possibility to compost these wrecks by hungry
decaying agents.

The bodies are crunched up and the resulting product is used as
insulating and sound proofing material by VW.
