Re: Working Hours
The Inspeçâo Geral de Educaçâo e Ciênica (IGEC) report on the Lusófona Uni that was passed on to Nuno Crato (Min of Ed) back in January has finally been acted on.
The IGEC found during the audit of Universidade Lusòfona 398 individual cases where degrees have been awarded that could do with a closer inspection due to the fact that certain procedures & criteria have failed to be complied too/with
Nuno Crato had yesterday signed off on this report & passed part off it on the the Ministério Público (DPP) without informing a fellow member of off the PSD Government.
Then @ 15.00 hours yesterday Miguel Relvas handed in his resignation as a Government Minister.
It is reported in today's Press that it is likely Relvas will be stripped of his "degree"
This is a massive blow personally to our upstanding PM Pedro Coelho as he & Relvas are "best bud's" & have been so for many years as they have been involved in several business ventures together & there friendship is so strong that when Relvas meet his new girlfriend not long back Pedro Coelho promptly gave her a place on his staff at a rather good salary.
(At the publics expenses off course)
Questions are now being asked as too what will happen to the 56 people Relvas employed to run his office (yes 56)
Just for once common sense & justice seem to be working here in Portugal
p.s. This is a very serious blow for the Gov as now the door has been opened the Opposition Parties are pushing for a complete & full investigation into Relvas passed life[/QUOTE]

On last night TV News is was reported that Miguel Relvas was now also resigning from his seat in Parliament
So there will be a snap Election & the result will be very interesting
It's a even money bet he's taking "one for the Boy's" as this case has caused great embarrassment for the PSD & really put a hole in there credibility
l imagine one off the boy's has lined him up a good job in the private sector

Last night in my local Café we where talking about Relvas resigning his seat in Parliament & I asked when will the election take place !
Only to be told there will NOT be a Election because under PT Paliamentry Rules the Political Party he was affiliated too (PSD) will just appoint another MP without consulting the Voters off Santarém to take his place.

Re: Working Hours
Sr Isaltino Morais is yet again in the news.
1st. He is now being investigated by Police Judiciário in Coimbra (what for was not stated)
2nd.He is also being investigated by Unidade National de Combate á Corrupçâo
(Serious Crime Squad) again no reasons as to why!
3rd. He has put in yet again another appeal his 45th to Supremo Tribunal da Justiça called " Recurso Extraodinãrio" Extraordinary Appeal demanding that the STdJ "so não interfere com a excução da pena"
+/- the STdJ has no right to force him to carry out his sentence.
This is the Highest Court in Portugal & he is stating that they have no power over the Judicial System ??
4th. And the best one - He still has his Passport & there are no travel restrictions on him, not to far back he went to Mozambique where by all accounts he has Business interest.
Incrediable !!

At last ! he was "picked up" today by the PSP near the building off Oeiras Camará & taken to Jail
His Advogado has been quoted as saying
"this detention is illegal as we have further appeals in hand against his prison sentence"

In fact EXPM Sócrates degree from the Uni Independente as a Engineer is yet again being scrutinized as a lot off the "documents" where signed off with a "stamp" & not a signature ?

When I read this I had to do so twice !
He is refusing to resign his post as Pres of Oeiras Camará as requested by his VP Paulo Vistas ,the outcome is he is running the Camará from his Prison Cell & being paid by the PT State to do so !
One can only think he is trying to recoup the reported 140.000.00€'s he spent on his defence !
Un bloody believable - who ever said "Crime dont pay" has never been to Portugal !!!

Well I really don't belive he has done this off his own back or with the best interest off the folk in Oeiras in his heart ,But Morais has "stood down" as President of the Camará in favour off his VP Paulo Vistas.
Local Elections are due later this year & I can only surmise that as there is a VG good chance off him getting his a--e kicked & now he's out of it before this could/might happen & Vistas will stand for Pres.
If Vistas gets in ,I wonder if he will find a Job for his mate Morais like VP
Personally I think it would be Political suicide ,but then again most off the locals don't seem to mind that much if the Politicians make a few extra bob ,in fact over the years I've lived here I have picked up the feeling that they wish they where in on it as well & are only jealous there not

Re: Working Hours
PPP = Private & Public Partnerships
In thursday's 16th Paper Press was a report that the Tribunal De Contas (TdC) carried out a audit of Estradas de Portugal (EP)
During this audit the TdC detected there was a anomaly in the accounts & after further investigation found that EP had "hidden" payments to "sub concessionaire's"= PPP's to an amount off over 705 Million €'s.
The time period these payments took place in was during the last PS Government when Sòcrates was PM.
So far the PJ have named the following as person of interest
Mario Lino Ex Min Public Works
António Mendoça Ex Min Public Works
Almerindo Marques Ex Pres EP
Humberto Bernado Ex Assistant to the above
Paulo Campos Ex MP
Ana Sofia Tomax Ex Manager EP
By today in the papers this story is now taking center stage & one went as far as to bring Sócrates into the frame.
As the PSD-CDS PP coalition promised to bring in the a Law to make "Illicit Enrichment" Illegal & then got it as far as the first reading in Parliament then some how forgot about it & stuffed it in a draw some where ,if this gets as far as going to the Courts the Defendants can only be charged with Money Laundering & Fiscal Fraud.
But thinking forward it's possible PSD-CDS PP could well do with not passing this law as some time in the future the elastic just could slap back in there face !!!
Unbelievable but true:-Ex PM Sócrates who in a very short time as PM managed to get Portugal which at the time was in a grade 3 crisis into a grade 8/9 crisis has been employed by RTP1 as Political Commentator appearing on the RTP1 news on Monday nights

Re: Working Hours
During the festivities on 10 June in Elvas which where attended by our beloved Pres Sr.Cavoco Sliva & our outstanding PM Pedro Coelho a Sr.Carlos Costal was heard to suggest that our Pres was a "ponce" & a "thief" + other really quite honest comments.
It appeared on TV that he was not the only person who was rather unhappy with Portugals leadership as there was a massive amount off "booing" - "cat calls" & various insults from a large portion off the public when these two leaders off Portugal got out off there respective chauffeur driven limousines.
But it seems that Sr Costal comments where an infringement off Article 328 of the PT Penal Code, so his details where taken by the Police & on the 12th just two days later he was charged & prosecuted under Article 328 & fined 200 days @ 6.50€'s per day = 1.300€'s.
After this story broke Cavaco Silva's "Facebook" page was absolutely inundated with many 1.000's of post even more insulting
As off last night news all these comments have now been deleted.
I find it mentally offensive that it is ilegal to insult or even tell the truth about a Politician here ,but on the other side off the coin the Politicians insult the Public ever day by failing to bring in the much moated legislation that would make "Illicit Enrichment" a crime under Portugals Penal Code.

Self employed but secretly work for the PT Communist Party
In doing so - I try to help ExPats understand what a s--t state Portugal is in at the present & the reasons for it & hope they will help us when the barricades go on the 27th of this month during the Greve Geral - sorry General Strike.
I hope to see you & LRS there

Let battle commence
The Ministério Publica (Director Public Prosecutions) have been quoted in the PT Press that they intend to "cancel" the summary trial & 1.300€'s Fine issued against Sr Costal as they consider the offense he was charge with " Ofensa á Horna do Presidente da Republica" was not covered under the Penal Code he was charged under
On the other side our President & his Office + Police are digging there heels in & have been quoted as basically saying
" You can't insult our President & get away with it "
This may seem a small thing, but the base off it is Democracy & the right off Free Speech
