Hi, I just wondered what some of you might miss from the UK, one thing I thought I may miss would be the tea bags, are they not the same as what you can get back home? I thought it would be an interesting question, many thanks Louise

Earl Grey, Marmite & Oxo cubes....... you can buy them here........just at a vastly inflated price.

We drink a lot of tea; I get in in bulk by mail. It's cheaper than the intermarche twinnings and I'm getting a better quality.
Once or twice a year, Aldi sells empty tea bags in little flat green boxes, 100 for a Euro or two. They also sometimes sell loose earl grey in 500 gram bags, which is a much better quality than their teabags.

Now don't get me worked up on tea. I love my tea and have not had a cup of the good tea in 8 months. All the tea here is flavoured with fruit and weak to boot.

yes I bring tea bags over in bulk! theirs is too weak and even the green tea is poor. Good toothpaste is expensive as is hair shampoo, hair spray etc. also stock up on that and Oxo!

Pies. No meat pies here at all. Cornish pasty. Chicken and mushroom. Steak pies. Sausage rolls. Nada, nix in PT.
Have to make our own here.

Their system isn't working properly, they didn't charge me anything for postage this time.
That makes it a pretty good deal.
They sell good tea; also very god tea, but then you pay more.

Iceland sells some, but their own brand has been recently changed to something ghastly. They also sell Waitrose and Birdseye which are ok.
Anyway, I have no doubt the ones you make at home will be far superior!

Ukkram, I'm sure you should be able to find nice little empadas de galinha (chicken pies) and marendas (cheese and ham). They're ubiquitous all over Portugal.
No comparison to the pastry heaven that is the UK but still much enjoyed by us while we were in Portugal :-)

Yes, we do get those tiny chicken pies but they are not juicy at all.
What I thought were great looking pies turned out to be filled with custard and chocolate.
