Default Via Verde device practicalities requested

I am soon ( allegedly ) to acquire a new car, which have been waiting for since April.

I will need the Viaverde device ( I think ) for automatic payment of motorway tolls.

Can someone with recent experience please advise of the nitty gritty of how to obtain this device ? Is it linked to a bank account or maybe you pay from time to time at a Multibanco ?

If one does not have it at all, is there any simple method of paying motorway tolls ? Eg do the cameras register one's car's usage and then you can maybe pay at the post office by a certain date ? Or Multibanco ?

We have one and pay by direct debit. No problems at all and easy to apply for. We've had it for years so apologies that I can't remember the application details! Just sail through the via verde lane. Regular invoices by email and also occasional offers.

You can pay at post offices and I think you have about 10 days to do so after travel. I bought a new Mazda from the dealer in Faro and when I picked up the car the salesman took me down to the market in Faro where the via verde office is located. I was able to apply for and receive the device in all of five minutes with a very helpful gentleman carrying out the details and communicating in excellent English. To be recommended

We don't have a transponder for either of our cars as we don't do many motorway journeys. When we do, I request the bill 2 days later on the CTT website and pay the bill using online banking. It could not be simpler.

Email via verde and find where your local place is to pick up the transponder (ours was the post office) , pay about 70 c a month to rent it, any tolls or parking are by dd from your bank acc.

Works well ime

I have 2 of them in 2 cars.
I had some trouble when my debit card was being replaced; a bank error meant I had no pt debit card for a month.
The Viaverde uses the card number to debit your account, so when the card is canceled it stops working until you give it the new card data.

Also works for some parking lots, Lisbon bridge tolls, and Spanish highway tolls.
If you drive your car in Portugal it's worth having I believe.

Go to Via Verde: Anda consigo. and use auto translate for the page. It's a bit ponderous to navigate their site but it works.

I ordered my Viaverde tag online and it was delivered pretty quickly within a few days. In order to set up the payment you take the letter it comes with to a multibanco. Insert your debit card and follow the instructions in the letter. All pretty painless and straightforward.

So do you actually need your Reg Number to place the order online ( I do not have this yet ~) ? Or can you order the device in advance and then when you are at the Multibanco you enter the Reg Number ?

Thanks for all contribs.. I recall someone opined last year that this website had past its use by date but it seems to me this is not so.

You will need the registration number first.

Ive posted this previously - but the company name has changed... This is for both occasional and permanent travel ... Here is the one I have for occasional travel.

https://www.fulli.com/en/fulli-nomade

Note the badge applies in 4 countries for travel. Its fantastic!! Especially as I personally often travel in each of these countries. Automatically paid too from your account.
Other options on the site. (That may or may not apply to you.) And there is a new tracking app too...

Jon

PS Note you only pay a small charge for the month used ... Zero for unused months

Do you know how long you have, after the motorway usage, to pay the toll via the CTT website ? I assume after a set number of days you start owing a fine, rather than a toll ??

And the start of the whole thing is visiting the CTT website and, I am guessing, setting up an account ? or is there a section where you just key in your Numberplate and pay online with local bank card ?

There is no parallel option to pay at Multibanco ?

I just used the link but can't make head nor tail of it because its all in Portuguese. Clicking on the 'En' switches the site to English - but then you get what appears to be completely different content and no reference to via verde that I could see.

It's a problem with the CTT site. Clicking the EN option supposedly puts the whole site into English, but it fails to keep you at the page you are on. However, even if you then select the option "check tolls in debt" on the top white bar, it still doesn't do what it says..... maybe it's a broken link or the page has been withdrawn.

Maybe flag it to CTT.
