True to a degree but when thinking of our own cars that we bought new in Portugal(talking in euros)
PT 2004 VW Golf 2.0 tdi new 33300 Current value around 9k. loss= 24300 euros

UK 2004 VW Golf 2.0 tdi new around 21000 Current value 3.7k. loss=17300 euros

PT 2008 Ford Focus 1.6tdci Titanium new 28k Current value 12k. loss=16000

UK 2008 Focus " " new around 19000 Current value 6k. loss=13000

So far on both cars thats 10k more of a loss than we would have had in the UK

Sorry but imposto automovel is a f#çking joke! I am not an OAP, I live and work in Portugal just as the Portuguese Joe Bloggs do and I think I can speak for them in saying... "Give us UK;Spain or France car pricing anyday thanks very much!"

the-hog

Actually i agree with you to a certain extent.

But when someone describes most of the people i know (and i am indeed one of them - poor, old, sick, foreign pre-taxed Pensioner in a wholly derogatory manner - then i'm Pi*sed off enough to make a direct reply.

Especially as the spoiled brats only point to make is that he can't afford a nice car -

No point having a nice car in Tavira anyway - it'd probably get nicked

Lol,
because i like your name s00-00 much, no more negatives b Red lips.

GED , just 1 point about the car stuff

I do agree car prices are steep here, so i asked the local businessmen about it in the bar.

They said a huge percentage of new car purchasers in Portugal are business, big or small and the first thing they do is claim the IVA back, hence reducing the price by 20-whatever percent is in force at the time - only the rich and foreigners do what we do.

I also find servicing, insurance, road tax etc much cheaper than the UK, reducing the price difference over time.

I like to keep my cheap old car out where it can be seen; NO MONEY HERE!
If you want to rob or burgle someplace, you'd no doubt be better off at the house where that big gleaming SUV lives...
Hey, if I have to drive an old car, I might as well take what little comfort it gives me.
Depreciation over 3 years... about 2 or 3G I guess. I've done about 60,000 km in it.
Turbo-diesel, 16 kml [real life], 20kml [factory claim].
