I have been using Smarty for a number of years without any problems.
I also have a Gibtelecom payg sim which I occaisionally use for calls from UK to Gib
The Smarty sim is very useful when ringing goverment offices where one can be held for hours in a queue

I use Smarty in the US as well for my UK line (I have two SIMS on my phone, one for each country). £4.50 a month and works well for me to get text security codes etc, or for when I'm visiting the UK. I wouldn't use it to phone the UK though as I get free calls with my US provider anyway, so haven't tried it for that.

Please clarify what you are saying.......
1) You live in PT?
2) You have a Smarty sim that you use to call UK gov offices from PT?
3) You have been in PT for more than 60 days?

Or is none of the above correct?
Thnks

Fredbargate has lived in Gibraltar for many, many years. His comments are about Smarty not about Portugal. Others have also joined in the discussion who do not live in Portugal in order to provide their experiences with Smarty.

thank you Rosemary.
The question for me however remains.
My limited use in PT, albeit for ,more than 60 days without being in the UK, prompted an immediate message from Smarty saying it will be cancelled if I use it again outside of UK.
I dont even know if anyone calling me from the UK whilst I am in Portugal would also trigger its cancellation.

I have been using Smarty since february 2021 without any problems.
Both in the UK and Gibraltar where I live
Also including a few trips to Portugal.
My recent comment about ringing Government offices are reference to Gibraltar

Thnks for clarification Fred.
Can you tell me if you actually took a long term contract with Smarty before 30th December 2020?
If so, that may explain why yours and others sim, appears exempt from the 60 day ruling, as i believe any phone contract taken out before that date is being honoured UK under EU rules at the time.
If that is not the case then maybe you return to the UK at least once in every 60 days??
If neither is the case, then as you say you use it to call both Gib and UK without that prompting some sort of reaction from Smarty then I am at a loss as to why it has happened to me.
I will not of course be mentioning any discussions on here to Smarty, rather I will simply get a dozen free sims and take out a monthly sim only contract with them and just throw one away each 59 days, and start another.
I am back in Uk for a few days in March so will use my current one to see if that starts the 60 day again or again get a message after the first use on return to PT.

I have regularly made calls from outside the UK most from Gib where I daily use it, but also Portugal, Spain and France. The calls are to Gib, NZ and UK.
