Guess the best option for me (Hyundai i10) is similar - use the UK car to move stuff over, then take it back after a few months and sell it in UK?

Is there any reason why importing a car is advantageous for residents (assuming they don't have a special car, of course)?

How long can I use the UK car in Portugal?

If you are bringing it in from another continental Europe country with left-hand drive there is a considerable saving to be made .

i believe, but you need to check the period for use of a UK, or car from any country, is 6 months.

Thanks! Would be a UK car though, so presumably best to just buy another one in Portugal?

There are also regulations forbidding residents of EU countries from driving vehicles registered in other EU countries in most circumstances.

Something those intending to register residence ought to bear in mind if they're also in possession of a foreign plated car which they don't intend to import.

Yes, the majority of people in Portugal have portuguese-registered cars

Initial cost may seem high to UK second-hand market but once you are in the market the resale value holds better

And the roads are never salter in Portugal; cars last a lot longer.
A car of an age that would be in the scrapyard already in the UK is often still shiny and rust free here.
