I haven't made the sums myself but I from what I've heard it's not worth for cars with less than 5 years. Not sure if that still holds true with the recent changes.

The cars that tend to be imported are prestigious german diesel cars since they hold their value extremely well here on the second hand market.

the tax due is reduced by a certain amount depending on the age of the car up to a maximum of 80% off for 10 years or more.

Do you know if the new rules apply throughout the EU or just to Pt?

It seems that motoring laws vary in each EU country, so I would assume only in PT.
