Re: London Transport
Heathrow Express can be good, depending on the Heathrow terminal and the hotel location. A hotel within walking distance of Paddington station does make it easy to get to / from Heathrow, especially if you have luggage.
Looking at the plan to book a hotel in central London for 1 night, and the 2nd night at a hotel close to Heathrow Terminal 4 to fly from Terminal 2 to Bangkok the next day, I'd suggest this is extra hassle (check in / check out and moving luggage) for no benefit. Direct flights to Bangkok depart at 1150 and around 2130, so why not spend 2 nights at the same central London hotel? If you're on the morning flight, it's not early morning so it's easy to get to the airport in time from central London. If the evening flight, you'll have to backtrack to central London to spend the day before flying.
