Not exactly relevant but I bought a kindle from Amazon and it was posted from the Us to the UK. Arrived very promptly and well packed. It is a WIFI enabled one and there is no problem downloading books in the UK. I will try it in Portugal when I come over in May. It is one of my best ever buys,. I am a prolific reader and already have about 30 books loaded.

All the best carol

My wife tried to order a Kindle through her Amazon account (our registered address is in Portugal) but they advised that as she was outside the UK that it would be shipped from the USA Along with all the import hassle (taxes, delays) that would cause!

The solution was to order in the UK, ship to her mothers UK address and have her Mum ship the package from the UK to here.

If your Amazon account is registered in Portugal you will be redirected to the USA site to order books too, but that presents no problem as they are downloadable electronic copies anyway.

I bought one from Portugal using a UK address and UK registered card, and had it shipped over using The Algarve Freight Centre. All went perfectly and works perfectly

It's best to have an account in the UK. If you try and order it from here it will automatically direct you to the US site and the books are more expensive and less selection. I.e. one author I like had no books on the US site but all their books on the UK one. You can alter your country on the website then it will let you go to the UK site to download books.

I had mine delivered to my Mum's address in the UK where all my cards are registered to...I bought the Wifi + 3G and either the 3G doesn't work on it or it's not available in Portugal (even though it says it is on the blurb) as if I try to do anything on 3G it just has a blank screen or freezes....definitely not worth paying the extra £50. In fact I need to follow that up with them...

I have an iphone and had been reading books on that, when I first got the Kindle I hated it as I kept trying to tap the screen! It also seemed very basic and definitely no good for internet use (i.e. Facebook) as it's really clunky, like going back in time 15 years. However, I've now read about 15 books on it and I love it. It's so light I don't even notice I have it with me, I never lose my place, it's so clear in the sunlight in fact the more sun on it the clearer the words...compare that to my phone which I can't see anything on outside. If you are buying it soleley for reading it's fab you won't be disappointed. Not good if you like Harry Potter though as JK Rowling doesn't like ebooks...

I bought my Kindle in the UK and the 3G Works Perfectly in Portugal, its a bit slow as you would expect as the WIFI element of it is free,i used it for emails, facebook etc last week,i found you have to be patient and wait till the screens have fully loaded and then it is fine.
