Default Intelsat 901 27.5w coming to the end?

I don´t want to be another "merchant of doom" or drive too much speculation but in the last week or so a number of satellite forum that I keep track of have threads reporting that the satback "channels" currently available on the old intelsat 901, 27.5w satellite have appeared on another satellite, Telstar 12, 15w.

I can´t find any definitive explanation why but speculation is that this is some sort of testing phase prior to a more permanent transfer.

The really bad news, if true, is that the beam being used is much closely focussed on the UK and Northern Europe and those in Southern Europe will likely not be able to pick it up...........

Perhaps time to take a closer look at your SAT setup in general as we tend to expect them to keep working with no maintenance.

A Larger dish, new LNB, coax cable or even receiver...the newer hardware has so much more capability now such as UHD TV and Web Streaming.

Satellites get old too so it may be due to drop into the ocean some time soon..

Update: now found the post I guess you are talking about.

this is typical, France already gets all Freeview down at least as far south as Bordeaux on an 80cm normal dish, and now looks like them and people living in half of Germany, Holland Demark, Scandinavia will also be able to receive all of this for nothing, but of course not where the majority of Brits live.

this thread;

When the MEV was attached to 901 to "replace" 907 it was announced that this would be in place for five years i.e. until mid 2025 before moving to do a similar job on another (unspecified) satellite..... The big unknowns (to me at least) is how long do we have left with 901? and if the plan is to move the services to this Telstar 12 beam we are stuffed!

Unfortunately it looks like Intelsat has come to an end.

We are going to use our Amazon firestick for all the live stuff plus we have our Sky contract for football and the Sky catchup service which is very useful.

What I will miss is the HD video. Neither BBC iPlayer or ITVx are more than SD. Also, it was so much quicker to access whatever channel you wanted.

Amazing. All these people wanting to live in Portugal, become residents and make outlandish statements about us Brits wanting to leave the EUSSR but still wanting to watch British television but not contribute to it. Unlike in Portugal, having to contribute to AV services through their electricity bills and not watching it.

Shame then that FULL Freesat is available to `Anyone` with a small dish and Freesat box living in Northern France (down to Bordeaux) , Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Germany.
The newer footprint still covers all of those areas
