Ex-Pat Life in Lisbon?
Hi all.. A male friend of mine has recently told us that he is moving to Lisbon with his job. Whilst he is perfectly happy with learning Portuguese (and it will be eventually required for his job) he is concerned about his after work social life.
As a newly single 40 + he isn't interested in bars and discos for the young. He would like to meet British people or at least English speakers . Has anyone on here any knowledge of professional ex-pats in the Lisbon area and what they do to meet up,.socialise ?
I have heard of Internations but wonder if that is also for the very young
Any help would be greatly appreciated by him...

Given that most professionals speak or at least understand some English, I'd be more inclined to find places which appeal to me, rather than focusing on those which are popular with a tiny minority.

There are two pubs in Cais do Sodre where Brits & Irish gather and they show premiere league football + they have sky sport 1 and 2. Also, look up Lisbon Players - a British amateur dramatics club. They have a loyal following and the group often goes out after performances for meals/drinks.

I am on internations, but it seems to me more oriented towards dating (although it's not explicitly that, most of the friend requests I have got are from women - my wife is on there too so not that I am hiding anything from her!), therefore I am yet to go to any events.
There is also meetup.com, which has various lisbon events. But the people on these tend to be younger, more 20-30 somethings.

Tell him to PM me. I am about half hour outside Lisbon, mid 40s and although not single (wife and two kids), bit short on expat chums round these parts for the odd beer or two out.
