Angry EU UK Free Trade Agreement

Just been listening to the leader of the UK,s Reform Party banging on about how big a success Brexit has been !
He insisted that a free trade agreement exists between the EU and UK ?
So, if this is the case, why are we being hammered with double VAT/IVA charges, Duty fees, and reams of paperwork, when buying stuff from UK ? What am I missing ?

He's talking complete garbage as always.

A TCA is not the same as frictionless trade which is what you had before you Brexited. You may not have tariffs but you have plenty of other trade barriers which are causing problems for businesses because the cretinous Johnson negotiated, agreed and signed a really rubbish deal with the EU.

You're missing the fact that the UK used to be inside the EU customs union and is now outside - a matter entirely of the UK government's choosing.

That means a customs border, with formailities and attendant fees even though the FTA maintains the no tariffs and no quotas that the UK previously had on goods trade.

Were this true, there would not be florists in the UK failing due to no longer being able to get fresh blooms imported, there would not have been a wholesale collapse of the fresh seafood export market, British companies would not be opening subsidiaries in Europe to avoid restrictions and the City would not have lost thousands of jobs to other financial centres. The increased red tape and delays have been exacerbated by UK government dithering and a total lack of clarity...... in no small part caused by the Reform Party's previous incarnation, the Brexit Party.

Anyone naive enough to listen to ultra right or left wing politician talk/speech should just soak it all in and not question it.
Those speakers expect audience blind compliance and logic/truth/common sense/etc. have no businesses there.

They spun their lies and mistruths in their former incarnation and are doing the same again.

I used to think the UK could not become like the States, in terms of politics, but it is quickly becoming so.

Unfortunately, as with many of these things, it is just a matter of time. However, the populist exploiters of chaos are on the march everywhere - and things are likely to get worse with the help of AI to help misinformation confuse more people.

All the founders of Reform UK come from the financial sector.... and there's money to be made from chaos, so draw your own conclusions. It is important to use the full title or call it "the Reform party", as "Reform" itself is a registered charity public services think tank.... it's amazing that the UK Electoral Commission allowed these pirates to commandeer the name of an existing organization.
