Default Buying a British plated RHD in Portugal to return to the UK

I have not yet been given a properly referenced answer to my question which is
Is it legal to purchase a British plated RHD drive car in Portugal to return to the UK?
How much mot must be on car, how is registration document transferred, how about insurance?
The word legal is very important as I do not wish to break, bend or otherwise hinder any laws regarding this.
Thank you.

The vehicle would need to be UK taxed, and have current MOT, valid long enough to get you back to UK, along with suitable insurance cover.
You would also need the V5 document and a bill of sale from the current owner/keeper as named on the document.
If you are Portuguese resident then technically you cannot drive the vehicle in Portugal.

Assuming valid UK MOT till vehicle arrives back in UK and copy of which is with vehicle, it can expire 0.0001 seconds after arrival in UK if then traveling to an prebooked MOT.
In EU/PT the new owner (keeper) need to have an UK address and not be EU resident, V5 reg doc keeper change can be done online then new V5 should arrive at UK address with in a few days, copy needs to be available in car in PT (some scan and then print works well) , change of keeper cancels VED (road tax) so new keeper need to re-tax (done online and good to have copy of payment in car). new keeper needs to insure and have copy in car. Proof of Arrival date of car in EU/PT needs to be available and under 6 months. Driver needs valid driving license for vehicle when driving said vehicle (and valid passport) AND proof of when they arrived in EU/PT less then 3 months. Several T&Cs apply.
I've not done so from PT but have done from F and NL.

The question you need to ask yourself is why is it still on UK plates? Is the V5 in the name of the seller? What about MOT validity and can you get insurance. If you a PT resident that opens another can of worms
