Default english speaking translator

hi we have some documents we want translating from portuguese to english, we only need someone to read them to us so that we can understand what they are and if we need to do anything.
Can anyone recommend someone in Tavira, Fuseta or Olhao areas.

Many thanks

Why don't you try Google Translate either on your computer or you can download it as a App for your phone. You can translate printed text using it..or as I found the most useful. Speak into the phone and it will translate to the language you want...

It is Brazilian Portuguese, and not the best for anything complex, but it should provide some idea. Translate the document, translate it back and then translate it out again - if it still makes any sense, then it's probably pretty close.

Alternatively, go to you local library and ask if there's anyone who speaks English and can help you - up here in the Alentejo there are several such people working in ours. Obviously, it's not their job, so you might think of rewarding them somehow if they help - but usually they will, if you ask nicely!

Pay for a translator. It is part of the price of living in a foreign land.

Scot I have no problem paying for a translator was merely asking if someone could recommend one in the area. We all know the ups and downs of living in a foreign land that isn't in question. Thank you

Our Portuguese private tutor would fit the bill. grew up on Mozambique, went to boarding school in S Africa, spent many years in Brazil. I'm sure he would be happy fora modest one off fee to translate for you.. His name is Manel TLM 969703793.

I don't understand - if this is a simple everyday translation to see if any actions are required, then any Portuguese who can speak some English would be able to do it - if there's anything they can't translate or needs attention, they will quickly tell you.

At that point you may need to engage a paid translator - but I doubt it. First stop, library/turismo - somewhere where bilingual people are likely to work. That way, you can get your translation and actually meet a local who can help you in other ways, rather than someone who makes a living from foreigners.
