Re: End of Democracy in Portugal ?
Sr Cabral has been spoken off as the possible Min das Finanças
That is if our "President" finally decides to allow Antonio Costa to form the next Government.

I see that the markets are so pleased with the prospect of an anti-austerity government that Portuguese debt is now being sold at negative interest rates.

Not entirely the whole story Eric. It's not just Portugal. The money markets are in a flap

Re: End of Democracy in Portugal ?
Did you read about the famous reporter allowed into the hallowed halls of Government recently to follow an MP (a rare thing) Apparently no one thought about the fact that he would be dining with them for two days.Lunch (for ALL parties) consisted of a Caviar starter, followed by lobster and champagne plus various expensive cakes and puddings. He thought perhaps it was a special 'one off' for some reason, but no it was the same menu the following day. Oh they really are trying to cut the costs aren't they.

Re: End of Democracy in Portugal ?
Hoorah, hoorah!! It's all over - the President has capitulated, swallowed a toad and appointed Costa as PM with the backing of the able left.
Anti-austerity government it is for the next 4 years. Comrade Dasterdly will be pleased - he hates austerity .
Comrade Dasterdly? Comrade Dasterdly? - yoooo hoooo, Comrade Dasterdly! Where are you, Comrade Dasterdly?
Probably hanging out in the Upper Tweasdon-upon-Bilgewater's Dog and Fox, sharing a pint with Nigel Farage. Mine's a pint as well, Dasterdly, as you're buying

Re: End of Democracy in Portugal ?
Happy your happy Red! I actually agree that austerity doesn't work, especially when your squeezing the wrong people. Again, confidence is key.It has to be given in the right quarters though. Business drives the economy, not civil servants.Creating the right climate for business to thrive. As we have just spent nearly three months on what at first glance was the 'simple' business of buying a small apartment, I have my doubts as to whether those old dictatorship ways have been entirely washed away
