You might need to be a bit clearer on what the situation is with regard to the situation of the owners of the goods. Are they all owned by the same person/s?

Are they relocating to Portugal or is it a 2nd home to which their belongings are being taken?

If the carrier of the goods isn't the owner, does he have the relevant authorisation (if required) to transport them?

Hi Eric
The owner is relocating to the area i live in Portugal.
All goods he is bringing are his own from his house he is selling and his beloved mini digger.
Due to a new knee he doesn't want to do the drive hence he has asked me to go over and drive both him and what worldly goods he wants to relocate.
He already has a house waiting to move into.
I have driven people over a number of time before Brexit But now it's post Brexit and documents are needed.

Peter

I would imagine that receipts for his belongings would be needed.

Is he proposing to do a lot of digging?

What sort of size / weight is the digger and is the transportation of it on your trailer legal in all countries of transit?

Are you/he aware of the customs / tax implications. Pre Brexit I think you could bring and take what you liked tax free as long as legal. Now you have to pay various taxes and they can be eyewatering.

Just in case you/he don't know, it is possible to take some personal items from UK tax free but he'd need to be a resident to do that and do it within 12 months of becoming resident - not sure whether business equipment is excluded so not sure how the mini-digger would be viewed.

Here you go, Peter - some official info for you :

Living in Portugal - GOV.UK

I think your friend will need to have got to the stage of having a residence permit from SEF prior to applying for the certificate.
