Bird Scarer
There is a bird scarer which has been set up to run almost constantly. It's making an almighty racket and sounds like a gunshot every 70 seconds. It's driving me bonkers. The land is fenced off, so the chances of it having an accident are slim. What are my options?

OPTIONS... (1) go to the neighbour and complain suggest they use the very efficient, SILENT ,plastic kite scarers. Saw one on the roof of the Ronaldo hotel in Madeira. Huge, in the shape of a hovering black hawk. It circled and dipped on a long bent steel wire. I think the wire revolved in some way ,as it was never in the same position all the time...
(2) go to Camara and complain... Suggest they ask neighbour to use above
( 3) pay a local hunter to shoot it out. ( I NEVER said that last bit... ha )

Thank you for the responses.
Talking to the neighbour is not much of an option as he does not live out here. It's basically a fenced off piece of land with a water reservoir on it - I've never actually seen him.
Option 3.... well, I have dreamed about it!
Option 2: I could do that except, I think they might have the same trouble trying to find the owner of the land.

Those things run from a normal propane/butane gas bottle, someone is visiting to change the gas cylinder, speak to them or just go and switch it off at the gas tap.

As MrBife says, most nowadays run on gas & as we're now in the high fire risk season I'd have thought you could contact your local Bombeiros about it.

Co-ordinating my visits to Portugal with a butane bottle change is not likely to yield results - unfortunately, I don't live here permanently yet but working on it!
Hmmm, the Bombeiros might be an option. I'll have to take the binoculars to try and see more closely if it's a genuine fire risk. Good idea.

True - but I don't want to make a 'nuisance' complaint. I'm sure they have enough to deal with.

Re: Bird Scarer
Having done some research, it appears they are a fire risk. I'm without a car for the next 2 days but I will report it this weekend.

Which is why I decided to first establish whether it was a fire risk or not before diverting attention away from more important concerns.

I see your point but the way to establish if it's a fire risk or not is to ask the Bombeiros who are the experts & when they tell you it is, you make a written complaint to both Camara & GNR & you'll find instructions on how to do that at portugalwildfires.com
