No just wondered as you seem to be very knowledgeable and use a lot of terminology.

I think that mainly you get additional benefits with your insurance above and beyond the "normal" policy. Although my insurance has been cheaper than a quote to a friend who does not have membership so who knows.

The free hospital card that gives me 15% of consultations and scans etc has been very useful.

If you use the card fairly frequent then I guess that should save you a few quid!

A lot of postings on the internet forums are rubbish are they ? Since I have been a member of this forum, I have posted FIRST HAND experiences only - everything from buying AND selling a car while I´ve been here, BUYING my own apartment in Lisbon, getting my marriage registered (I am married to a Portuguese girl), getting my residency, registering my UK driver´s licence and getting a job etc etc - all for no personal gain or gratification other than divulging the information should it be useful to someone else. My wife and I talk to locals and visit the necessary offices - we don´t join an organisation!

But go ahead - pay membership fees in the knowledge that the information you get there must be pure gold.

Ask Medal for a quote for health insurance then ask Allianz, I think you'll find it's worth €40.

Cool Re: AFPOP

I have been a member for 5 years and it certainly saves you money, we had private medical with Medis and it was €1700 for two and €15 to see a doctor, changed to Alliance through AFPOP and now pay for basically the same cover €968 for two and €10 to see a doctor, also saved between €60 and €80 on car and house ins with the same company that I was with. They organise seminars through out the year on anything from tax to meetings with GNR/PSP and even dying in Portugal and regular free medical checkups on various illnesses at private hospitals, the problem in Portugal is that the goverment change their policys so often and that there is so much disinformation going about it good to know you can phone or email them to find out what is actually happening.

Thank goodness someone else thinks the same way we do. Get fed up with people assuming and implying I am an idiot for paying my subscription.
