Hi All,
Just wondering who else is penciled in for the May the 26th Class. I have been given the option of the 28th of April or the May the 26th and was just wondering what the feelings are of anyone else in the same position.
Rob.

Thanks for the input yes the shorter course does sound so much more appealing. Just means another month off work with no income really. Already booked to come out family and all in March and taking possession of our house in April. Personally two months off sounds great so think the May Class will be the way forward.

Seriously - that will pale into insignificance, if you were sitting there in the classroom, with another 19 weeks ahead of you. The short course would still graduate way before you - galling. Go work at a coffee shop or Canadian Tyre for a month

The firearms, sct and fitness training are great - and the days with "sim" rounds were an absolute blast!
Aside from anything else it will allow you to make lots of new Canadian friends who you will form a very close bond with...I know I have.
Pompeyboy..you have my sympathies! 19 weeks in EPS training is a Looooooonnnggggg time!!!

im on the short course.. i too was offered the april longer course.. no chance! 20 odd weeks sat in class!! no thank you..
ive also heard for anyone who is already firearms trained, that part of the course may also be a bit quicker, so the class will be split for that section..
has anyone heard of the actual length of the course yet?
i also read in the paper that training is now 4 x 10 hour days, rather than 5 days per week, is this going to be the same for the uk course too?
Cheers

Take the full course is my advice - it is well worth it. It is a bit of a slog at times (*cough* diversity *cough*) but overall one of the most positive experiences you can have.

Hi Guys,
My OH is on the current course that started in March. It is the 20 week course, but he decided to do this so that he mixed with the canadians after all we up sticks to live here, why not train with them, and I agree with the comment made by jayzee, you make good friends as you go.
I would assume that the May course will be four day weeks, and its tough make no mistake, start at 7am and finish at 5pm - add on any travelling and it really takes it out of you. Add on to that the shorter course?
It may sound great - less weeks- but what actually is it that they cut out of the training? Things they think you already know?
Some of the experienced officers on this current course have been out of front line policing for a time and are heading back to the streets, so what some experienced officers see as being taught how to suck eggs for other officers its stuff they have not dealt with in a few years (maybe more) although some of the training may seem like they are teaching you to do the job you are already doing, remember you are in a different country dealing with different people, different processes and procedures
The class gets split within the first few weeks - thats what my OH has experienced but it isn't, uk experienced and canadian unexperienced, they are all mixed. All members of the class are learning from each other and supporting each other through the tough physicals.
I had heard that they had decided not to do a UK only course? but I must have been mistaken, I know a couple of officers on the March course were due to be on the May course but moved over because of this, maybe its changed again.

Just an idea, but if you are pondering which course to take, why not contact CPS and see if anybody currently on a course would be willing to share their experiences.
If you haven't done the course yourself how can you speak for those that have. To just say "take the short course' seems somewhat irresponsible.
I woudn't think all the people in training use this site.
Just my opinion

I understand the comment above about mixing with the Canadian recruits - and that carries a lot of merit. A class of 16 Brits has the easy potential to deteriorate into a funtastic whingefest

Mixing with 'real-life' Canadians whilst training certainly gives ample opportunity to see the locals in action - but if you're going to spend the next 15 years with them anyway, you'll soon get to sus them out - and they you!!
Edit: - "If you haven't done the course ...." ?? The people who have replied to this thread pretty much have done, are doing, or have sat by and watched someone else do the course !!
Have you done the course? Are you also with CPS? Would you care to add your thoughts on the training, in general, please ? The more, the merrier ....
