Just a quick one for those that were unsuccessful with EPS and were still wanting to come here but not sure what to do. I am now employed with Lakota drilling working on a oil rig! As a 'ruffneck' thats a floorhand you work a 2 week on 1 week of rota, very hard physical work and the money is fab! My first 2 weeks were at the rig in Wetaskiwin, on wed we are moving to Hanna, just east of red deer. They even give you 130 bucks a day for a hotel room, even if you dont use one! It will certainly give us a start!
Best of luck to everyone, those joining and those not, have a great time, Canada is definatly the place to be. I have no regrets. Laters! Bob

Just wandering, did you have experience in this kind of work previously

Steve.

no experiance at all! I did a weeks course at a place called Enform in Nisku, which gives you all the certification you need, plus if you didnt enjoy it at least I would find out at that point! No seriously you dont need experiance they will teach you what you need to know and then you need to apply to drilling companies. They have a big shortfall of personnel so it wont take long to be taken on! Im off to Hanna tommorow morning so wont be back for a couple of weeks, hope this helps! Bob

I am a canadian/Edmontonian born but out of curiosity, how are you all whom have moved to Canada, Alberta (Edmonton/Calgary) feel?

I am going to be applying for the EPS soon as I get my visions corrected after the PRK (similar to LASIK).

How long is the handbike test? I have a great fear on that one so how may I prepare myself?

Other physicals I am capable of doing over the requirement.

Thank you.

Hi all, I am currently a PC in Devon and Cornwall police, i sat my written tests last year and have just sent my application off for employment. I am very grateful of any advice available and was wondering how hard the process really is. I have alot of fat to lose but will be down by the time i have to be. I have lots of questions but that will do for now.

Its pretty hard. There are no exceptions made on the physical... quite rightly so, in my opinion.

They seem to lack experience in dealing with potential recruits with previous policing.
The interview process is throrough to the point of stupidity. We're joining the Police, not the Secret Service !

Their approach seems to be one size fits all. That made me feel a bit treated like a child. I did'nt get through, (although I passed the fitness after training like a demon).

Have a good look around ..... I found the City did'nt have much to offer really. (Although others will give a different point of view)

Nice big shopping centre and thats about it. You might find it different. Make sure you have a good look around.

If I had got through I'd have been working till I was 60, whereas over here I can retire on a decent pension at 49.

Depends how crap you feel with the job and life in the UK.

Remember, the job will be the same. People will still have domestics, get burgled and have car crashes ! Same S++t, different accent.

If you want to go 'co z you're hacked off with the UK thats not a problem.

If you want to go 'coz you're hacked off with the job, think VERY carefully.
