Australia: Permanent residency and joining
#1
But of a strange question ! My partner is about to submit an application as a registered nurse in the state of Queensland, with this visa she qualifies for permanent residency as well as her partner-which is me.
We are hoping to move to Australia in about June 2008.I have always wanted to join the police and was offered an appointment to join the British Transport Police in Nov 2006 and after attending all the assessments, medicals, fitness tests etc I turned the appointment/job down. With us now planning to move to Australia I have looked into residency requirements for the Queensland police and my question to you is:
With this permanent residency status can I join immediately once it
is granted to me or is there a time period one has to wait or have lived in the country ?

Hi,
Out of curiosity; Has anyone here emigrated on a Permenent Residency Visa, applied for a police force and got accepted into the police training program, with NO prior policing experience from their home country?
The reason I'm asking is because I moved to Australia (Sydney) 4 months ago, currently working in I.T for the last 10 years - no prior policing experience (but 1 year in the Swedish Army, Corporal), interested in joining the NSW Police. I imagine they would want people who have lived in the country for a number of years? Or do they accept relatively new permanent residents into the policing program?
Any thoughts/experience on this?
Cheers,
Andy

Have you tried to do a search?
There is someone whose husband has applied since being in Oz & was accepted (new to force) will try to remember the name. Actually, I'll go ask in the barbie & let you know!

Andy,
Have got it now!
Try sending a pm to wholeworldwindow. Her husband is the one who has joined the force as a trainee. I am sure they will be able to help you with info!
Good luck
