You either didn't read the article or at least not fully. It says criminal groups here working with those abroad.

G, I think most people think that there may be a few individuals engaging here and there in text scamming. But from what you say it's a cottage industry where you live! If so then maybe this bill will do some good. Can you expand on this?

The first salvos coming on SIM registration. The usual threat of a minimum 6 months in jail for false information! Looks like you can do it online. But another chore for the New Year. |
Re: Phone, internet, online
One would "hope "... yes "hope only " that customers who have been with companies like Globe / Smart for many many years and who have supplied the required ID in order to get the smi and phone contract would be auto enrolled/verified... but sometime hope is a vague thing. no doubt some other body will want some more personal information , to be stored ( your data is safe with us !) , and then sold on to more scammers in due course. "Sorry po we had a breach in our secure system ".

Re: Phone, internet, online
Department of Information and Communications Technology was definitely right in their guess there would be problems with the registering of SIM cards

Ps. Just heard of someone trying to register with Globe that the requirements include: 3 IDs, selfies, proof of address, work permit and return tickets. Think I will wait awhile 🤣 |

Saw somewhere that Globe can only register 20k Sims per day. They have 86 million SIMs. So it would take nearly 12 years to register every SIM working at full capacity if that were to be believed. Plenty of time then 😜😅

If you are on a tourist visa then if you register the SIM it is only valid for 30 days
Maybe a better idea would be that registration would be valid for life for all and only deregistered after 1 year of inactivity for instance. |

sir, you are assuming an element of logic here. Wrong thing to do. Inmates and asylums. Remember, now its not the job of govt to ensure everyone is registered but the telco companies. Theres nothing in tihis for them to do this, only fines of they dont.
