I've been living/working in China for three years, with many vacation trips to the Philippines. I've now decided to move and retire to Davao City. Two most important things are done now:
Open bank account (HSBC) and transfer savings out of China.
Find a somewhat to live. An "up and down" apartment in Matina.

At the end of this month is the Big Move from China to the Philippines.

Interested in contacting any UK expats living in Davao for a coffee/beer and a chat.

All plans OK so far. Biggest hassle was opening a bank account in Philippines, without having confirmation of a proper address, i.e. not a hotel. The bank wanted utilities bill, e.g. water or gas. How can I produce this before living here for a month or two? Chicken and egg situation. I need the Philippines bank account before I move from China in order to transfer savings. Can't do this from the Philippines…!

I got there, eventually. It's all good, so far.

Hi there. I've been to Cebu a couple of times, but chose Davao City as a base to settle down. It's just been given the "fourth safest city in the world" award. #1-3 were Dubai, and somewhere in Switzerland and Spain. I guess the strongman Mayor has a big influence on this. He said "Criminals-leave Davao now. Vertically or horizontally… Your choice!".

I plan to come to Cebu from time to time. Perhaps meet up with you for coffee or beer when I'm there.
