Whats your fave thing about living in chch? One of the big appeals of nz for me is the space and also being so near the beach but mountains etc.
The nearest beach here is almost 1hour away and its pretty rubbish tbh, nice enough to take the dogs out of season but on one of our rare sunny days then its mobbed!!
Dave's the outdoor type so i think he'd enjoy it over there, im more of a beach bum lol

We don't seem to convert as such, but I do think in terms of 'is it worth it?'
Like when we do eat out, a toasted ciabatta with chicken, salad, crisps, is about $9.00 so in pounds it's roughly what? £4.50?
That's when I convert it to being worth it and not being ripped off! The same goes with all our food really and drink!
We do spend more on food, but I don't wate it any more either!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I do too and we've been here nearly 18months. For example, I had ordered pumpkin soup for lunch last Thursday and it was $9.90 which sounded expensive then I thought, nah, that's just shy of £5.00.
The soup (which was delicious and hot) came with slices of toasted French bread too. The view overlooking the fountain at Virginia Lake here in Wanganui on a bright sunny winter's day was great. I followed the soup with a mushroom omlette (delicious and freshly made) so that put the overall price up. Anyway, it was a treat.
I can't believe I'm spending as much money if not more on groceries each week as I was in Britain ! I moaned about the cost of groceries before we left too. Now I'm regularly spending £2 or more on a loaf of bread that cost £1.35 in Tesco last year. That's just indicative of the overall cost.

Been here a month and thought I would post a wee update, not been on here much since arriving as had other priorities and been reasonably busy.
To sum in up in 3 words LOVE THIS PLACE!
I had been reading a lot of the negativity on here prior to moving and to be honest I was very apprehensive and concerned that I may have had made a big mistake by leaving my job back home etc (especially with the job market etc....)
Had heard scare stories about lack of work, low wages, lack of accommodation and extortionate prices everywhere.
Although I realise everyones situation is different and all things are relative, I have not found an of this to be the case.....
I moved over hoping to secure work without any offers and staying with a friend until I got accomodation sorted.
I had contacted a recruitment agency as well as a couple of other applications prior to arriving on the Thursday, had 4 interviews and 4 job offers within a week, which came as surprise.... after a tough decision I opted for one in a nice area paying almost double my salary back home as well as a company vehicle.
With regards to the accommodation, I put an application in for a house and never got the first one, to be fair we viewed loads of properties, some i wouldn't let a dog live in, with nice ones probably about 1 in 4 or so. I thought this would be a difficult process but was offered the next one so everything has panned out better than I had planned.
I suppose the 'low wages' is job-dependant, however, I have noticed that even admin jobs over here are approx $18 per hour which is considerably more than the UK.
So far this move has been a good choice, Christchurch is a great city with so much variety and a lifestyle I much prefer to that of back home. I realise that not everyone ends up as lucky as I have been as I have landed on my feet, however, I would hope that my experience evens it up a bit from all the negative ones I had read prior to moving.
My advice would be don't let others posts influence you as everyone will have their own experiences and opinions....
Only been here a month but if anyone wants an info etc then gives a PM
Cheers for now...........
