From: Horizon Hills soon!

Hi hmsayeed, glad to hear you are doing okay.
Like ex reg, I too am dying to hear about your experience doing it. Like where your workplace is, where your children's school/s is/are, the route/s you take, the time you need to leave East ledang etc.
Lol, I know it sounds like a lot, but I would really appreciate your sharing since I'm moving over once my renovations are complete in Horizon Hills.
Not to mention I get asked questions like these a lot from friends and relatives who hear that I am moving across as well.
People can't wait to get out of Singapore it seems.

Hello,
My initial choice was Horizon Hill, but later choose East Ledang.
I do travel daily to work at (HP) Alexandra, SG daily at 6am morning, wife dropped me first and then my kids at Katong and Pasir Ris before 6.50am. Planning to transfer one kid to school at west of SG, so that I can start my day a bit late about 6.15am.
You can contact me at (SNIP)– happy to share good and not so good things.
cheers

I am aware about your question. I had the same before and now explaining to my relatives and friends almost daily basis – all are waiting for my feedback!!!
It’s not easy to explain without experiencing.
I must thanks both SG and MY immigrations for their efficiency and preparedness. Most of the time I need to choose which counter I should go for clearances… probably the crowd starts after 7.30am
Last 3 days, my one kid entered school within 40min at katong (from East ledang).
I have a week’s experience, waiting for few months to say finally that the thing is working.
from 2nd link to East ledang, it takes 6-7 min drive. Not sure about KM. I will check today.
cheers

Great to hear of someone else who's made the move hmsayeed. How are the kids coping with being up so early?
Harlow Lad - Singaporean schools start anywhere between 7am and 7.30am. My son starts at 7.20am and at the moment we live 5 minutes' drive from his school. Even now he has to be up by 6.30am to make sure he gets ready in time. I can't imagine having to be up any earlier (for me or him!!)

Harlow Lad - children don't start primary school here til the year they turn 7 so you'll have a few years to get your son used to it! The entrance is done on a ballot system and foreigners do come last on the list.
However, as I mentioned on another thread this doesn't mean that your children won't get into a "good school". I honestly think all the schools are "good schools". It just means you might not get them into your first choice or the one closest to you.
If you'd like I can PM you my experience of going through the ballot system. I've been asked by a couple of expat friends recently about it so I can just be lazy and send you the e-mail I sent them
)

Any hints on estates that offer substantial plots of land within gated community. Preference is for us to design and build ourselves.
We would not have any buying restrictions as MIL is malaysian and we can purchase the property in her name. MIL and FIL will be invited to move down from KL to live in. They can retain their own place in KL or breaks etc.
It looks like I will stay in Singapore during the week and drive out during the weekend to spend time with family. I dont commute more than 20 mins (business related reasons), and given the realistic feedback a commute to Singapore on daily basis would exceed this.
Therefore the area needs to be secure, and safe with access to the new marlbourgh school.
Any recent experiences on getting maids? Would be live in.
We are considering bringing a (western) nanny with us, any experiences with this?
What are car buying thoughts in malaysia? ie vehicle options - common to blend in, but with high safety level and comfort/quality. Any things similar to Singapore like COE. My company is providing my work vehicle in Singapore. Suppose that is not a problem driving in Malaysia?
My brother being a helicopter pilot jokingly asked about flying from Singapore to Malaysia? Given the cost of cars - could this joke actually have some merits? Work did not laugh when I suggested it. This might solve my 20 min commute
What are local industrial areas? so I can google. And preference for local hawker places.

In terms of car, you be better off buy it in Malaysia. They average 2 times the price of the UK, where Singapore are 5 times. And its still a cheaper option to drive a Malaysian car in to Singapore with all the the fees throw in for the next 10yrs.
