for you guys already starting a post in oz what is the general place on the payscale you get offered does uk experience count towards place on the awards scale?
am i right that pay starts around 500aud pw to 800aud pw after 8+ years o experience.

In WA the pay starts at about $42,000 for leval 1.1(first year) and this rises every year up to 1.9 $56,000. You also get shift penalties on top of this and pension paid as well. I think it is slightly different in the different states but not that much.

thanks i found some pay scales for sa but i was more interested in where we go in on them, like we dont have to go i at the bottom rate do we? does our uk time served count or is it up to the hospital

I've been trying to find out the same things as you. I have been searching the net for numerous hours and can't find out if we have to start at the bottom of the pay scale. You mention that you've managed to find some pay scales for SA, can you tell me the web sites of these please. I've managed to find recent pay scales for some of the other states but the only pay scale I've managed to find for SA starts at a little over $32000 - that seems to be about $10000 behind the other states so I hope that its an old pay scale from a few years ago. Thanks!!!!!

You won't have to start at the bottom again. The only thing that may happen is any years worked part time will only be counted as half a years experience. Does that make sense?!

I was told that my salary wouldn't be that different to what I have here and now..... but being 3 yrs qualified here (with band 6+ Community Nursing Specialist Practice qualification) I will be taking a huge drop in pay in exchange for a flat 3 yrs qualified there.... but in real terms it won't be too different when taking into account benfits such as .......living in Australia.. for which I would happily take an even larger cut... but please don't tell management.

To be honest I "drove" myself here, did degree in my own time in addition to working full time, I volunteered to do above and beyond and lived for nursing. I spent nights away from hubbie & kids head stuck in text books for what? For an organisation that doesn't nurture nurses, doesn't value them, thinks we are dispensible... salry packaging in the UK? we dopn't even get milk for the tea we have to provide ourselves.

This was a mistake ..... in Australia I plan to be working to live and not living to work... I certainly wont be taking work home with me again.

found an up to date nsw scale. it says you need proof of employment from every hospital since graduation ft and pt to calcualte your rate.

From what I know from other girls who have worked interstate you initially go in on the basic RN1 band and then once all of your paperwork has been confirmed i.e. you get either letters of proof of what you have worked or in my case we had to just signed a statutory declaration (which makes you wonder how many people will abuse that one!) and then your wage increases. I am not sure about other states, but once you get to an RN8 your wage stops getting a yearly increase and only increases if the nursing union fights for another one. I am an RN3 and my anniversary is in two weeks and my wages will go up and so on for the next 4 years but then after that it stays put until someone fights for an increase.
