I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine on the wards once you find your bearings again. I felt exactly the same a few years back- I was seriously assaulted by a patient on the ward where I worked. My manager was so unsupportive that I handed in my notice a couple of days after ( whilst off sick and black and blue). Anyway, I went on to work in the community for 2 years then 3 years extended maternity leave.

When I finally went back to ward work I was extremely nervous, partly because of the assault and partly because of my time away. I needn't have worried. Obviously it took a few shifts to familiarise myself with some of the new drugs being used etc, but after that I was fine and managing shifts within a couple of weeks.

Working on the wards reminds you why you became a nurse, am sure you'll love it. Also it's liberating to leave the management crap behind

I totally agree with you the one thing i wont miss is managemnt. Especailly now as the cuts we are having to make are stupid to the point i would say that patient care will start and suffer. Just need to get my visa to get me out of here!
